Kyles Ford, TN

• 0-30 minutes from River Place
During your stay at River Place on the Clinch, take some time to explore the area! Kyles Ford has nine stops along the Appalachian Quilt Trail. There are many more to be seen if you continue traveling Haley’s Loop of the quilt Trail, which takes you right through the heart of Appalachia to the Historic Vardy Community. Go for a hike on one of River Place’s new trails and see Kyles Ford Falls, or take a trip to nearby Thorn Hill, TN to hike up to beautiful Elrod Falls!

Rogersville, TN

• 30 minutes from River Place
Take a day trip to nearby Rogersville, TN for some historical stops. Visit the Tennessee Newspaper and Printing Museum or the Swift Museum. Rogersville also holds its annual Heritage Days festival every October to celebrate the city’s unique heritage.

Morristown, TN

• 1 hour from River Place
A bit of a drive from River Place, Morristown has many interesting stops to check out. Take a class or look at an exhibit at the Rose Center Museum, or learn some history at the Crockett Tavern Museum. College Square Mall offers a variety of stores for the shopper in you.

Cumberland Gap, TN

• 1 hour and 5 minutes from River Place
For a fun and educational trip, visit the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. For local shopping, stop by the Cumberland Gap General Store, Gertie’s Commissary, or Whistle Stop Antiques.

Rutledge, TN

• 1 hour and 10 minutes from River Place
Visit Joppa Mountain Pottery, a stop on the Appalachian Quilt Trail, and buy some beautiful Raku pottery. If you’re visiting in July, be sure to check out the delightful Grainger County Tomato Festival and witness a “tomato war” first-hand!

Greeneville, TN

• 1 hour and 10 minutes from River Place
Greeneville, TN is home to the annual Iris Festival, in honor of Tennessee’s beautiful state flower! While you visit, stop by the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site. For a fun, education experience for the whole family, visit Still Hollow Farm, another stop on the AQT.

Bristol and Blountville, TN

• 1 hour and 20 minutes from River Place
Bristol is a bit a drive, so plan on spending the day to explore the city or even go to a race at the Bristol Motor Speedway. For shopping, try out the Bristol Mall or Kil’n Time Ceramics. For a more natural adventure, visit the Appalachian Caverns in nearby Blountville, TN.

Kingsport, TN

• 1 hour from River Place
For a day of family fun and recreation, visit the Kingsport Aquatic Center or Bays Mountain Park and Planetarium. Kingsport also has a wide variety of shopping options from the Town Center Shopping Mall to Downtown Shopping for antiques. For an educational experience, visit The Exchange Place, a living history farm!

Southwest Virginia

• 1 hour from River Place
For a historically enriching trip, visit the Southwest Virginia Museum or the June Tolliver House, home of the Trail of the Lonesome Pine Outdoor Drama. You could also go on an adventurous hike on the Devil’s Fork Loop Trail in the Jefferson National Forest. The trail goes to a beautiful pool called the Devil’s Bathtub!
